I cannot eat this much. So, I have requested Katie and Sharon to put me on ½ servings. That was perfect for my breakfast omelet, although all this fresh air makes us ravenous.
My boat mate for the day is Ed- Mark’s is Kenton. The same spots that were productive for Eric and me fail miserably today and Ed and I have nothing to bring to the “shore lunch” cookout. The other boats (mostly) do very well and there are plenty of both pike and trout for lunch. Sharon, Katie, and Jerry set up a shore field kitchen and Brian cleans fish while Bob fries them. In this author’s (humble) opinion, this is the best meal yet (out of many fabulous ones).
Ed and I cannot catch fish today even though everyone else catches many. In one little cove Mark, Marvin and several others catch close to 200 pike, (there seems to be more luck than skill involved).
I spend the night writing, hot tubbing, beer drinking, and plotting revenge for the overdoses of Tennessee orange. The campfire gets rained out, but no problem as most fishermen are going to bed earlier every night.
However, Jim and Rob are out fishing ‘til the wee hours. Jim wanted to fish all night, but finally came in because they thought it was required. Jim would fish 24/7 and sleep in the boat if he could. He says, “I have a hot tub at home, but I don’t have a lake full of big trout!!!”
David and Eric do hot tub with us and take tremendous abuse from each other as well as all of us as, “the kids” on an old guys’ trip. Being good sports, all the teasing is like water off ducks’ backs. David seems to be proud of eating more cookies and “borrowing” more lures and flies than anyone else.
